Hausma beach

The Hausma swimming beach is situated about 200 metres away from the new Kärdla Marina. The first harbour was built here by the Kärdla broadcloth factory (1829-1941) already in 1849 in order to facilitate the transportation of its products and raw material. Later, the passenger liners that provided connections with Tallinn, Haapsalu, and other, smaller harbours, started to come here as well. The buildings still remaining from the old harbour are the wool barn and the warehouse that originally belonged to the broadcloth factory. The old Kärdla Harbour was destroyed in 1944, during World War II; and the new one was opened in May 2014.

South of the swimming beach, between the outdoor gym and the forest grove, there is a spot where various protected orchids grow. The fly orchid (Ophrys insectifera), the military orchid (Orchis militaris), the early marsh-orchid (Dactylorhiza incarnata), the Baltic marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza baltica), the lesser butterfly-orchid (Platanthera bifolia), and the common twayblade (Neottia ovata) have been found there.

You can swim on your own responsibility, as this is not a designated beach and therefore has no lifeguard services.
